About us

Established in 1991, the Washington Area Housing Partnership is a regional public-private housing partnership that serves as a resource for local governments, housing providers, and financial institutions regarding the "state of the art" approaches for the construction and preservation of affordable housing, with an emphasis on housing for the region's workforce. The Partnership is the only regional, public-private partnership focused on affordable housing policy and innovation in the Washington metropolitan region.

The Partnership has regular and direct access to the largest body of the region's local elected officials (COG's Board of Directors), making it the most important affordable housing advocacy entity in the region.

The Partnership provides a forum for public, private and community sector housing advocates to come together to share best practices and craft regional affordable housing strategies. The Partnership convenes the region's elected officials and housing experts annually to develop strategies to address the affordable housing crisis. The Partnership is a recognized leader in identifying and advancing new solutions to ongoing affordable housing challenges.

The Partnership, a not for profit 501(c)(3) with its own by-laws and board of directors, is housed within and enjoys the full support of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.
